A beautiful large postcard came from Torsten Berner (7 February 2014) who lives in Krefeld, Germany, the second postcard came from a Direct Swap Postcrossing (18 July 2014) Josefine of Greifswald and the third postcard came from Wilhelm (25 May 2015) Postcrossing.
The lighthouse of Westerheversand is situated on the German North Sea coast in the northern part of the peninsula of Eiderstedt. Here the Hever stream has formed a channel in the intertidal area, in which the water flows to and fro with the tides causing a continuously change in the depths and the extension of the sands. Many ships were stranded in this dangerous area, so in the beginning of this century it was decided to build a lighthouse at this site. Work on the lighthouse began in 1906.
This beautiful tower is one of the best-known lighthouses of the German North Sea coast. It is such a popular site for weddings that one of the keeper's cottages is a registrar's office; the other is a national park office.
