DS & FI-2143301 Finland, the land of many lakes

There are two postcards in this post.  The first postcard is entitled “A Secret Swimming Paradise” (Finnish: salainen uima paratiisi). The scene is of an island in the middle of a lake.

The second postcard is "Summer in Finland" and this postcard came from a Postcrosser, Anna (received on 11 July 2014).

Finland is a country of thousands of lakes and islands -about 188,000 lakes (which are larger than 500 m² or 0.12 acre) and 179,000 islands. The largest lake, Saimaa, is the fourth largest in Europe.

The area with most lakes is called Finnish Lakeland. The greatest concentration of islands is found in the southwest in the Archipelago Sea between continental Finland and the main island of Åland.

Taru who sent this postcard (26 Mar 2014) Postcrossing Swap-bot mentioned that Finland is sometimes referred to as the ”country with 30,000 lakes”.  In part, I believe that this expression came from a vintage travel poster drawn by Alfred Mahlau (German, 1894–1967).  The poster is entitled ”Finland The Country of 30000 Lakes, 1929.”
