NL-2610081 Lighthouse Hellevoetsluis

Lighthouse Hellevoetsluis is a round, white brick lighthouse with two floors and a height of 18.1 metres.  The tower was built in 1822 and stands at the harbour entrance of the South Holland city of Hellevoetsluis located on the Haringvliet (a large inlet of the North Sea).

The lighthouse was originally equipped with three parabolic reflectors.  In 1901 the tower was rebuilt and in 1933 the telescope was replaced.  In 1965 the lighthouse was restored.  The old optics is now part of a small exhibition in the Tourist Hellevoetsluis.

In 2005, through the help of the City of Hellevoetsluis and many residents of the city, the lighthouse was restored one more time.  After completion of the restoration, management of the tower was transferred to the municipality of Hellevoetsluis.
