Taipei City 臺北市 is the capital of Taiwan (officially the Republic of China). This global city is situated at the northern tip of Taiwan  about 25 km (16 mi) southwest of Keelung, a port city on the Pacific Ocean. Taipei is located on the Tamsui River.

The city proper is home to an estimated 2.7 million people. Taipei, New Taipei, and Keelung together form the Taipei–Keelung metropolitan area with a population of more than 6.9 million people.

Taipei is the political, economic and cultural centre of Taiwan. It is serviced well with railways, high-speed rail, highways, airports, and bus lines connecting the city with all parts of the island. Taipei is served by two airports – Taipei Songshan and Taiwan Taoyuan.
