Baltimore is the largest city in the State of Maryland. It is located in the central area of the state The independent city of Batimore (often referred to as Baltimore City to distinguish it from the surrounding Baltimore County) separated from Batimore County in 1851.

Baltimore was founded in 1729. It has a population of more than 600,000. The Baltimore Metropolitan Area has approximately 2.7 million residents.

With hundreds of identified districts, Baltimore has been dubbed "a city of neighborhoods".
