IN-174274 The Open Hand symbol of Chandigarh, India

The Open Hand Monument is a symbolic structure located in the Indian Union Territory of Chandigarh, India, designed by the architect Le Corbusier. It is the emblem or symbol of the Government of Chandigarh and symbolizes "the hand to give and the hand to take; peace and prosperity, and the unity of mankind".

This symbol is used these days to represent Chandigarh.  This postcard shows the symbol at Sukhma Lake which is a reservoir at the foothills of the Himalayas, the Shivalik hills. This 3 km² rainfed lake was created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe, a seasonal stream coming down from the Shivalik Hills.

This postcard came from Raagan (9 March 2016) Postcrossing.
